I went ahead and upgraded the OS on 202-VMHost1 to the latest version 3.5.0 Build 158869.
The process went smoothly, and the servers all restarted.
The VMWare tools needed to be upgraded on the VMs. It succeeded on the 202-dc1 and 202-library, but not 202-stu2dc. Stu2DC was coming up with error 1722, while trying to find the administrator accounts using WMI.
Apparently, this error seems to come up with servers that have been P2V’d. The work around:
1- Copy ComReg.exe to c:\windows
2- Copy VCBRequestor.dll and VCBSnapshotProvider.dll to c:\program files\vmware\vmware tools\drivers\vss\ (create it if it doesn’t exist)
3- Run:
comreg.exe -register "c:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\Drivers\vss\VCBSnapshotProvider.dll" "VMware Snapshot Provider" "vmvss" "VMware Snapshot Provider"
4- Reinstall VMWare Tools
- The upgrade was done on 04/15/2009 @ 1:30pm
