Outlook profile creation scripts available

I have setup the PRF files corresponding to the different versions of outlook, and the different scenarios. I have listed here the different purposes of the profiles that you will find in the following directory: \\do-fs2\Utils\Outlook Profile Setup\

The file that is a PRF is the actual profile configuration file. There is no need to worry about this one. The batch files (.CMD extensions) are the ones that need to be run to setup the corresponding profiles:

2003-CVUSDProfile-LAN.CMD:

  • Will setup Outlook in the LAN environment. This needs to be run while logged in to the user’s profile.
  • No further action required, and no additional password required.
  • This profile cannot be accessed from outside the district.
  • It is best setup on desktop with Office 2003.
  • The profile will be called: CVUSD Outlook – LAN on the user’s profile listings.
  • An archive file will be created In the following format: %USERNAME% Archive.
  • The location/name of the archive will be: %USERPROFILE%\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\%USERNAME%.pst
  • The offline outlook.ost will be in: %USERPROFILE%\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.ost

2003-CVUSDProfile-RPC.CMD:

  • Will setup Outlook in WAN/RPC environment. This needs to be run while logged in to the user’s profile.
  • In this scenario, the user’s password needs to be entered 3 times in a row, only during the profile setup. Thereafter, the user has to enter their password only once when opening Outlook.
  • This profile can be access from outside the district
  • It is best setup on a laptop with Office 2003.
  • This profile will be called: CVUSD Outlook – RPC on the user’s profile listings.

2007-CVUSDProfile-RPC.CMD:

  • Will setup outlook in WAN/RPC environment. This needs to be run while logged in to the user’s profile.
  • In this scenario, the user’s password needs to be entered 3 times in a row, Only during the profile setup. Thereafter, the user has to enter their password only once when opening Outlook.
  • When double clicking on this file, a DOS window may linger in the background (only during the setup, you can feel free to close this one manually, otherwise, it will close by itself, when Outlook is closed)
  • This profile will be called: %USERNAME% Outlook – RPC on the user’s profile listings.

The RPC profile can still be setup on desktop if needed. We just like to keep the setups as suggested above to keep the load off the Exchange front part of the server.

Unfortunately, I was not able to create a PRF for Outlook 2007 in a LAN environment, due to a known conflict between Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003, to which, the only solution, according to Microsoft is to upgrade to Exchange 2007.

Meanwhile, a profile can still be created manually on Outlook 2007, and if in case the server: POSTAL does not allow you to create the Outlook profile, replacing that server name with DO-DC2 should resolve the problem.

IMPORTANT:  These files need to be run from the path they currently reside at. If moved, the CMD file needs to be tweaked to point to the correct file.
