I have spent a good part of the night rebuilding 5 of the 7 Citrix servers from scratch. I have succeeded in bringing everything back online. Some details to be aware of.
The servers that have been rebuilt are: cvusd-citrix2, 3, 5, 6 and 7.
cvusd-citrix1 and cvusd-citrix4 are currently turned on, but are in maintenance mode.
cvusd-citrix4 is currently the server setup for Mac printing. At this point, Mac users will have to hold off until I can rebuild that server with the Mac capable printers.
I have decided to reinstall the ScrewDrivers v3 on the server, at the risk of the print spooler spiking up after a while again. This, is to give the helpdesk the chance to help the users upgrade to version 4, and in this manner, the server upgrade would end up being transparent to the user.
(had I installed ScrewDrivers version 4 on the servers first, then all the users would’ve been unable to print until they uninstall the old screwdriver v3 client version, and installing the new version on their workstations.). I would like for this process to happen, and for the helpdesk to make this priority, so that if something happens with the spooler and I need to upgrade to v4, I won’t worry about the users having to upgrade to be able to print.
Since I had to rebuild the servers, the machine ID of the server that ScrewDrivers assigns is now different, so I had to turn in the licenses to be reactivated. I expect to get these activation sometime tomorrow. Until the activations are here, printing will work just fine. The only difference is that the users will get a little screwdrivers trial pop up with a 10 second wait window before getting into Aeries. The window will look something like this:
Mike or Mario, please do send out a message to the users first thing in the morning with a copy of this screenshot, telling them to just click the close button once it’s no longer grayed out (After 10 seconds), and continue their work as usual. As I mentioned this should only be there until I get the activation from Tricerat, at which time, this notification will no longer appear.
The login to Citrix seems to be much improved at this point, and the Internet Explorer Branding message on login only shows up for about 15 seconds, and then logs in normally.
I’m still not feeling well, and may not be in in the morning, however, I’ll be at my computer as early as possible to make sure to deal with any issues that may come up.
I will send out updates as I get the activations from Tricerat.
