Over the weekend, I updated the Active Directory Schema to version 31 (R2), which has enabled the functionality that I have talked about in some detail in the previous article.
Though the printer deployment by policy is now enabled and functional, I would ask that you would refrain from starting to use it yet, until I do some testing to understand exactly how it works, and then I will provide some guidance as to how this function works, and how we will use it.
Unless there’s a big opposition to this, I would prefer that the hands that touch group policy would remain to a minimum. As some discussions had gone on in the past regarding the possibility of having only a couple of people take care of deploying the printers in Active Directory, to keep the room for discrepancy in naming, setup, etc ...to a minimum , I would like to keep this idea alive, and push towards that model.
Along the same lines, setting up Wireless profiles on a Group Policy basis is also now available, pending some testing to figure out how that works as well. More to come on this.
If anyone sees any behavior that may possibly be related to this upgrade, please let me know.
