The LANDesk progress is going well. The agents for all OS’s are now published on the http://setup page. All of these agents have also been published in the Public scheduled tasks.
As mentioned in the first post, all the agents that are in the scheduled tasks are now the Advance Agents, so they will install pretty quickly, and most of the agent installation progress will happen on the workstation itself. The best way to check if the installer has succeeded is to keep an eye on the inventory and make sure that the agent version has been updated.
Note, that the Mac agents, which are not up-to-date to version 9.0, and are placed in both a scheduled task, as well as on the http://setup page, do not support the Advance Agent configuration, nor do they have AntiVirus. An agent push to a Mac will only be possible if a prior agent was already on the Mac. For new agents, they would have to be initiated from the workstation. (From this aspect, nothing has changed from 8.8).
So far, I have counted 1698 machines with the new agent. And more are being added quite quickly.
In addition, I have created some scopes that target some labs, and added the lab admins to them, to be able to manage their lab workstations. Please let me know if you have anyone that you would like to give them access to control their lab. For now, Walnut and Anna Borba have access.
One thing that has changed in the new version of LANDesk 9.0 is that the “Users” category in each section has been removed, which means that now, a couple of steps are required to figure out the owner of a task or a query. For this reason, I would ask that you would add your initials to the end of everything that you create that is not in the Public sections. This will make it easier to recognize what tasks belong to who.
For example, if you create your own query called: Anna Borba Lab Room 35, just title it, this way instead:
Anna Borba Lab Room 35 – GK
I will be periodically checking all the tasks, and when I see items that are worth putting in the public section for everyone’s use, I will do so.
The last item is the Column Sets. I have created a Public Column Set for everyone’s used, called : Helpdesk Info, which is a compilation of all of your individual column sets. Feel free to use that if you like.
Steve Bibler is in the process of recreating the OSD and PXE menus, and is succeeding, so it’s a matter of time before everything is in place again. For anything urgent, please contact him for specific deploys/captures.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
