We have finally gotten around to upgrade our VMWare vSphere 4.0 infrastructure to Update 1a, as well as updating VMWare View 3.0 to View 4.0.
This is a very big milestone, as this will enable us to start creating linked clones for our Virtual Machines in the View 4 environment.
The following has been performed:
vCenter Server:
- vCenter has been updated to version 4.00 Update 1 (Build 208111)
- Update Manager has been updated to version 4.00.3971 (database upgraded as well)
- VMware Enterprise Converter has been updated to version 4.1.0
- All the ESX and ESXi vCenter agents have been updated to the latest version, so that they are able to communicate with the vCenter server again.
- A backup of the vCenter database has been made for both the VCDB and ComposerDB.
- VMWare Composer has been updated from version 1.0 to version 2.0 which enabled VDI Manager to connect to it now.
VDI Manager:
(This update was performed a couple of days ago)
- VDI Manager has been updated to version 4.0
For those who use the vCenter client, an update to the client, update manager plugin, as well as the converter plugin (if you have those installed) will be required at your next login. The system will detect that you are running an outdated version, and will prompt you to update. It’s a pretty simple process, and you should be well on your way.
If you run into any problems with that, please let me or Dave know.
