Today, at 4:45pm, I will be taking down cvusd-wi1, and cvusd-wi2 , which act as the Citrix web interface, and the Citrix license server, respectively, in an attempt to move them to the virtual cluster, for 2 main reasons:
- We are trying to insert additional ESX servers into the CVUSD VMware cluster, and the current wi1 and wi2 physical servers are in the way of physically installing the new servers. So we’re trying to avoid to have to install the new servers, only to have to move them again later.
- wi1 and wi2 are old CBS servers, both of which are running in degraded mode (with 1 failed hard drive, with no reachable spare parts), and therefore are on their last leg, and are a big risk.
Right now, I will start P2V’ing the current servers into the cluster, and configuring them accordingly. When 4:45pm comes, I will be powering off the old servers, and powering on the virtual ones. If all goes well, the downtime should be a few minutes, and we’ll be back up.
During the downtime, I know that users will not be able to get to the Citrix web interface to login to Aeries. However, users which are currently on the system shouldn’t be affected. (at least I don’t think so, as I’m not sure if the absence of the Citrix license server has an adverse effect on active sessions)
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Mario and Cheryle have been notified, and Mario is in the process of notifying the users of this scheduled downtime.
Thank you for your patience through this process.
