You may be wondering that that title is all about. Hercules is an Open Source Load Balancer that I am implementing on the VDI Manager (basically, the VMWare View Portal) that all our users connect to, in order to establish a session with VMWare View.
I have done some testing on it, and it seems to be working perfectly, and balancing to redundant VDI Managers (which Dave Couch built this morning, Thanks Dave!!) for all our view clients. I am happy to report that this will remove yet another single point of failure, and provide load balancing for the amount of connections that we will be getting on the View Connection Servers.
The end users should not see any difference at all from their end. On the back end, however, this will prevent the performance of VMWare View from starting to degrade when we start getting hundreds of connections through it.
Also, the solution that I put in place will allow to add additional Connection Servers and join them to the Hercules Load Balancing pool quite easily for future expansion.
This is just an informational piece, and will be live by tomorrow morning. and requires no action on your part. Please let me know if users are experiencing any issues with connecting to the View server. (i.e: https://cvdesktop.chino.k12.ca.us)
