Changes to latest AeriesCS VMs

Based on the latest comments and feedback with the new VMWare View system for Aeries, I made some changes to the parent VM.

Some of the most obvious changes are:

  • There are no longer printers (HP Universal Print Driver and Xerox Universal Print Driver) that show up on the desktop when the user logs in.
  • The Username for Microsoft Office applications now show “Technology”, instead of my name.
  • The users should only get their i: drives mapped, instead of all their shared drives (This is only partially done, and will finish modifying all the scripts tomorrow to reflect that change)
  • The latest version of Aeries was loaded on the image.
  • The latest set of Windows updates was also loaded.
  • I have added some exceptions in the scanning for the Microsoft Security Essentials that I was seeing consume some CPU during normal usage. I’m hoping this will alleviate some of that CPU usage.

In addition to VMWare View, I went ahead and reverted the Citrix servers back to their snapshot, so that we don’t have to deal with the spoolsv problem.

Helpdesk, please do test out the new image and see if there is any improvement, and keep me informed of any new issues that come up from the users in using the View clients.
