over the weekend, I spent some time designing some diagrams and flow charts in order to
- Attempt to explain, in Laymon's terms the functioning of the system
- Create a simple question/answer flowchart that will help the helpdesk, and anyone assisting users in answering questions regarding their logins.
As a side topic, I have also created a Wiki, which I'm going to be using as a central location for storing procedures, instructions, data, which is accessible securely via the web. It is effectively a replacement for the Zoho wiki that we used to use. I'm moving that direction, mostly because I don't feel too comfortable having our data sitting on an outside server, in addition, this Wiki will allow you to login with your current Active Directory credentials and have privileges within connected directly to Active Directory security group. In other words, much more in tune with the standard of security we're heading towards.
I will start you off by giving you the links to the diagrams that I mentioned above:
The over all diagram to the Active Directory / UMRA / Userstore infrastructure can be found HERE.
For troubleshooting steps for SchoolFusion logins can be found HERE.
For troubleshooting steps for Active Directory logins can be found HERE.
Please note that in order to see these articles, you need to actually login with your network credentials. (do not put the CVUSD\ prefix before your username. so, I would login with "georges", and Steve Bibler, with sbibler.
Feel free to browse around and see if there is any information that could be useful. Username, Password conventions, Exchange Profile Setups for iPhone, and RPC over HTTP are all there, in addition to numerous other articles.
Also note that you are able to subscribe to any specific page, or name space (major section) to be notified by email any time major changes are made to it. You can manage all those subscriptions by clicking on the "My Subscriptions" link in the left pane.
Finally, you can head to the "Playground" if you're curious on how to create articles, or simply head to the main page of the Wiki for some additional useful information, and a location where I would post any news flashes that are happening. I would strongly suggested that you subscribe, at least to the start page.
I will continue to use the CVUSD Change Log (this blog) to post major changes to servers, the wiki is for DOCUMENTATION purposes.
If any of you are interested in using the Wiki to contribute, talk to me, and we can arrange for that. For now, the only place any of you can make changes is the playground.
