do-dc1 is now back online (with the same IP: 10.40.55.10), running Windows 2008 Enterprise R2. I have re-installed DNS, and replicated everything. Unfortunately, the tool that I use for monitoring the whole environment (Spotlight on Active Directory) apparently no longer works with 2008 Domain Controllers. since we don't own it, I have to revert back to individual, checking for services and errors, which is much more time consuming, and more likely to inadvertently omit some items.
So far, everything is looking good on the AD side (from what I can tell).
As a requirement to bring in a 2008 Domain Controller, and to avoid some weird errors, I had to also raise the Forest Functional Level of Active Directory from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003. (Previously, we had raised the Domain Functional Level, but not the Forest Functional Level).
I have not changed any FSMO roles yet to the 2008 server. I will give it 24 hours to perform some replication, and integrate itself in the environment, before we re-seat some of the roles.
