I spent some significant time with LANDesk support today, and we found that there are some processes belonging to the LANDesk agent that are consuming the majority of CPU cycles.
The remote control issue mentioned in yesterday’s post related to the COM+ service has apparently resolved itself. I am, however still keeping that ticket open for a couple of days, in case anything resurfaces regarding that issue.
At this point, there are 3 cases I have open with LANDesk that are high priority with 2 of their different teams:
1- Related to Antivirus service as well as the softmon.exe service consuming a lot of CPU cycles.
2- Related to tmcsvc.exe (Multicast service), which also consumes high CPU (half of available CPU) at all times.
3- When the agent is installed via the Advance Agent, the Antivirus engine comes up as stopped, and refuses to start, claiming that there is another Antivirus engine already installed. This will get resolved by rebooting the machine. The case open is to figure out whether this behavior can somehow be changed when LANDesk A/V is installed on top of a previous or same version of the LANDesk A/V and enabled the engine without a reboot.
Again, I have stressed that these issues are very high priority, and are causing problems with the users’ work. So LANDesk will be working on this ASAP, and providing us with a solution.
Meanwhile I do appreciate your patience during this process. If you have any new issues that come up related to LANDesk meanwhile, please let me know, and I can make sure to address them.
As a side note, a new rollup should be coming out for LANDesk 9.0, either tomorrow or the day after, which I will be immediately applying, as it will affect some of these performance issues we’re seeing with the agents. This may or may not require a small update to your console. I will keep you posted about these details as I get them myself.
