Few miscellaneous items: SQL, Exchange, Backups, Firmware and VMware

I will try to keep this one brief but informative. Last night I have done some recovery work as well as maintenance.

VMware:
Though still working on it, I'm working on recovering from the iSCSI issues we were having on Wednesday. As a result, I had to reboot all the VMHosts. Everything should still be up and running, and there was no downtime in services. I still have 1 ticket open with Compellent and 2 tickets open with VMware.

I have changed the iSCSI pathing from Passive/Active to Active/Active, this should provide a small boost in performance. Redundancy should still be in effect with the new multi-pathing model. (we were already multi-pathed on the SAN's iSCSI ports already.

Drobo:
  • Applied a firmware update on the Drobo, and rebooted it.
  • This affected 4 servers and backup sets:
    • do-fs1, do-tech, postal, and do-sql: If you have anything to do with backups on any of those servers. Please verify your backups. I have ran the firmware update at 8:30pm. I believe this is before any backup window that we have, so theoretically nothing should've been affected.
POSTAL:
  • Installed KACE agent.
  • Stiill need to add Nod32, but need to research exceptions for Exchange before doing so.
  • Updates pending reboot. Did NOT reboot.

DO-SQL:
  • Applied Windows Updates
  • Uninstalled LANDesk Agent
  • Installed the KACE agent
  • Installed Nod32
  • Added E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server and E:\Data to the exceptions from RealTime scanning. If we see any specific performance issues due to realtime scanning, we'll revisit.

  • Changes were made between 3:30pm and 11:00pm
